Dei Fiori Inside
INSIDE CAMPSITE
Some people love to go on holiday always in the same place. They become so attached to that destination at the point that it’s not only the location that matters, but above all is the feeling of being home. That is the reason why the district of Cavallino-Treporti has instituted the title of “Tourism Ambassadors”. It is quite easy to understands its meaning: it’s a way to award those loyal guests, who choose our coast as the destination for their yearly summer holiday. Each camping selects its own ambassadors and presents them at the ceremony.
This summer, the title of Tourism Ambassadors of Camping Village Dei Fiori goes to Jenny and John Love, a lovely British couple. Jenny is refined, elegant and very sweet; John is pleasant, polite and a fantastic humorist!
It’s a windy afternoon of June 2018, and we listen to Sabine, our receptionist, explaining the long journey they make every year to reach Cavallino-Treporti: “First of all they take the ferry-boat. The first day they drive all over France to reach the Swiss border, the second day they cross all Switzerland, and finally the third day they arrive at Cavallino -Treporti…The whole journey with the steering wheel on the right side!”
Approaching the end of the ceremony, John also explains: “Dei Fiori is not known very much back home. We were told about it by a friend, and we will now pass that massage on!”.
After some pics and refreshments, we set up a short but incredibly pleasant interview. Jenny was born in Sydney, Australia, John was born in Camberley, UK, and they were married 50 years last December. He loves music and theatre, she loves art and museums. John – who has always loved travelling by caravan – says he has changed three in the last 30 years. The most recent one is almost 20 years old and looks like a four-wheeled passport: all the stickers from the Swiss border since 2009 are attached to its windscreen!
The first time John and Jenny came to Dei Fiori was in 1990. Jenny actually remembers the exact date: 9th July. Their memories are still so vivid, that they remember it was not possible to book in advance the pitches, except for a specific area in front of the beach. Jenny adds that at that time there were mostly tents and caravans and also discloses to have an old map of the camping (unfortunately back home)!
Both John and Jenny tell us how they were enchanted by Dei Fiori from the very first moment. They say there were beautiful flowers all around the camping, John even remembers that the “Dei Fiori” sign at the entrance was made of fabulous yellow flowers. They were very impressed by the incredible friendliness of the staff as well. “People here are so warm and polite”, they say smiling.
Every year they are very happy to come back and meet with four Italian families and three German ones. Their Italian friends always come to hug and kiss them – which is not a very British thing, but they really like it! They are so close to each other that every winter they exchange Christmas cards.
Mr and Mrs Love tell us they love Ristorante Dei Fiori so much, that when they travel to Venice any other place can’t compete! When we ask them which are their favourite dishes, John immediately answers: “Fish dishes!”, in particular “scampi” and “branzino”. Jenny instead loves “spaghetti alle vongole”, and her favourite Italian dessert is Tiramisù.
Which is one of their best memories at Dei Fiori? John doesn’t think too long, and tells us about the boat tours to visit some islands of the lagoon. They were offered wine, sandwiches, salami and cheese carried in a big basket, and had the chance to make new international friends!
Our interview (unfortunately!) comes to an end, and we have to say goodbye to our lovely British guests. Coming back to our SeaTales headquarter, we cannot deny to be a little bit moved. The thing that strikes us the most is something that Jenny said suddenly, in the middle of the interview. With a very sweet look on her face she whispered: “we love this place…we really do”. She didn’t need to add anything else: the affection and the emotion in her voice said it all.
